Glinka is not only the name of a famous composer, but also the name of a technology for producing rare Christmas tree decorations in the USSR. So, the name "glinka" comes from the word "clay". The reason for this name of the technology is that a liquid clay solution is used in the production process.

The production process was very labor-intensive. Glass molds were blown into any shape without molding so that the glass was very thin. If the model provided for relief, it was made relief.

Then the glass blank was immersed in a clay solution and this thin layer of clay was allowed to dry. After that, using special tools, the clay was removed from those areas of the Christmas tree decoration where it was planned to apply aluminum and colored varnish. So, the prepared blank in clay was placed in a vacuum unit, where aluminum vapor was pumped in. In a vacuum, aluminum vapor was able to settle evenly on the Christmas tree decoration.

After that, the clay was washed off the blank and colored varnish was applied to the aluminum layer. It is interesting that the aluminum coating and varnish could be applied both to the outside of the Christmas tree decoration and to the inside.
