SCARCE 1950S VTG PATRIOTIC WEST GERMAN XMAS TREE TOPPER FIGURAL SANTA iob

This listing is for a figural Santa Christmas tree topper, made in Western Germany in the 1950's. I just LOVE the German Santas - they have a lot of personality! This one is a bit sly, and he definitely looks like a trouble maker! The Germans always imbue their decorations (the older ones, anyway) with the greatest expressions!

Anyway, this one is quite charming. It is a hand painted plastic head with a rabbit fur beard, mounted on a blown glass base. It is a metallic turquoise blue.

The base has some scratches and surface cloudling, but no breaks or chips. The beard and mustache are nice and full. His features are good - bright and clean. He is wearing a really large red glittered cardboard hat with a chenille puffy ball at the top. The ball has age darkened, probably from contact with the cardboard box. The trim around the hat is a heavy fiber. He is large, measuring 14 tall. He is quite patriotic, with his red, white and blue colors! He comes in his original box, which is staple constructed of thin cardboard.

The box is fragile, with the end having been torn off. That is where the Wet Germany information would have been! He also would have had, originally, a paper sticker on the bottom of the blown glass base that said Western Germany. He is guaranteed authentic, and vintage. West Germany only existed from 1945 until 1989.

Items from 1945 to 1955 were most often marked US Zone Germany. He is a wonderful topper, with just a very few flaws!
