Pair Vtg Victorian blown glass Xmas TREE TOPPER finial s mantle ornament rare
Description - Rare survivors, especially as A PAIR - these are unusual, unsigned, free blown / handblown, clear glass, tree toppers - or use as decorative mantle finials, or even bottle stoppers for large apothecary jars. These are heavy, seamless, hollow blown, like inverted bottles or like whale oil lamp fonts, with sheared/polished lips, and applied, tooled and twisted spires. The glass is crystal or flint glass, and rings brightly when tapped. Please take note - this is a pair, but with normal and expected variations of hand blown glass: ie. One is slightly shorter than the other with a slightly thicker spire. Also, they both stand straight. My camera tends to make side-by-side things look askew. When I found these they were filled with debris - and antique wire tinsel and Victorian scrap pictures. Because they are clear glass, and the interiors are somewhat accessible from the open bases, they look like they would have invited filling - candy or decorations, or photos. After much searching, we were unable to find others like these toppers. Although they have similarities to older Lenox crystal pieces, when contacted Lenox said they were not anything they recognize from their archives. Note Lenox Glass began officially in 1853, so searching their entire archives is probably something the average customer service rep is not inclined to do. 10 and 9.75 tall overall, by 3 diameter, approximately. One weighs just over 8 ounces, and the other close to 10 ounces before packing. Shown with a hand, a ruler and a lemon, for scale. Please see my other items for more neat things you may like.
