ANTIQUE VICTORIAN-ERA DRESDEN MOOSE CHRISTMAS TREE ORNAMENT (2 1/4). This example is a 3-dimensional ornament depicting a bull moose. It's made of pressed cardboard that was handpainted.
The ornament is on the smaller size, measuring about 2 1/4" long, 7/16" wide, and 2 1/4 tall. It's guaranteed to be a genuine Victorian-era Dresden ornament. Dresden ornaments are some of the most charming and beautiful decorations ever manufactured for the Christmas tree. Taking their name from the Dresden-Leipzig area from which they were made, they were manufactured using cardboard, dampened to make it flexible, then pressed in a stamping die.
One ornament was often made of several pieces which, when dry, were assembled by workers. Dresden ornaments were primarily made between 1880 and 1910. Many thousands were produced, but relatively few remain today due to their fragile composition, making them highly prized collectibles.Condition of this Dresden moose ornament is VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT. It appears to be undamaged, except for some wear to the painted surface. The hanging loop is intact. Overall, this antique ornament looks great and displays well.
