4 Vtg Antique 1920's Xmas Putz Village Erzgebirge German Miniature Trees, Mounds

I have heard this type of tree referred to as cookie trees or pie trees, because the paper mache mounds, when placed together, resemble a cookie or a pie, that has been cut into 4ths. The bases, or mounds, are made from paper mache, and the trees are made from sisal. They are quite old - from the 1920's or earlier.

I have seen them in sets, or as trees for a train village. They come from the Erzgebirge region of Germany.

They are in EXCELLENT condition, with no breaks or damage. The trees vary in height from the bottom of the base - they start at 3 1/4" and the tallest is 3 3/4". The mounds, when together, are a circle that is about 4 across.

They can be displayed together, or apart. They are VERY light weight.

The trees are nice and full, and the colors are good. Each little piece is marked Germany on the bottom. Many of the same families that made these toys in the early part of the last century are still there, and still making toys today.

The old pieces, like these, are highly prized by collectors because of their folk art charm. They are great for a Christmas Putz village - these are the village scenes that people display under their trees each year at Christmas.
