NORTH BROS Mfg Antique Cast Iron Pole Post Tree Stand. Completely restored, no rust, no debris, works as it should , ready to use or to add to a collection, has been stripped down to bare cast iron and then hand sealed with bees wax. Embossed: NORTH BROS Mfg Co. Philadelphia Pa USA Pat Pend.
These were produced at turn of century circa 1900. It is not often you find these antique oddities. Measures approximately 10" tall and the top opening is 3" in diameter. This is one of the larger ones that they made, some only accept a 2 inch tree.
The tightening ring turns freely and the higher it goes the tighter the 3 claws inside become on the pole. North Brothers manufactured several sizes of Christmas tree stands from the early 1900s through the 1940s and always embossed its name and location on them. North Brothers was founded by machinist Selden North in 1878.
His brother Ralph joined the company a couple of years later. The two operated a small brass and iron foundry and plating business in Philadelphia. In 1892, they bought American Machine Co. Also in Philadelphia, and moved their operation into the larger American Machine facility. Stanley Works, makers of Stanley tools, bought North Brothers in 1946.
