RARE VTG 1940'S CARDBOARD PUTZ XMAS TREE VILLAGE W SANTA N REINDEER COMPLETE iob
This set is SO scarce, in its original box (iob) WITH it's Santa and sleigh! I have found other sets in the box, but missing the Santa and sleigh. They are so cute that they get played with and damaged more than the rest of the set! There are 8 little houses, two in each color, with holes in the back for lights. The set is really in excellent VINTAGE condition. (This means age related minor flaws).
I have tried to show all the flaws in the photos. There is overall glitter and white paint loss, but no big chips or issues. This overall wear is called patina - it is what gives antiques their antique look. Patina can be faked, but if you look closely enough, you can always tell the difference. Faked patina will be completely overall, and very exact, not worn in places like real patina.The sleigh is 3 dimensional, with sort of 3 D reindeer - they are flat, but have 2 separate sides. One reindeer's foot on one side has broken away from the base - it doesn't detract, just looks like he is running so fast he is running off the base! Santa is flat, but his feet bend apart so that he can sit in his 3D sleigh!
It's very ingeniously designed, with a slot in the bottom of the sleigh so he can be firmly set in. He has wonderful lithographed paper over cardboard on both sides.
The houses are also lithographed paper over cardboard. The holes in back are nice and crisp; I don't believe the set was ever used much.I have stored (and recommend you do too) it wrapped in acid free tissue paper. This will help prevent the further deterioration of the cardboard. The box has lots of wear, and lots of previous owner tape to the corners and such. The front two bottom corners had split, so I affixed some acid free paper to the corners with staples, so it will hold together better. This is less invasive than tape - tape over the years will yellow and cause damage.
The houses are a nice size, measuring about 3" tall, with the bases for each about 4 3/4" long. The sleigh and reindeer are 13 long at the base. It is from the 1940's, probably made in the US.
It really is a lovely set, that won't disappoint. I try and recycle packaging materials as much as I can. I will make sure it's sturdy and the item well packaged. I believe in offering the best customer service.
